About This Community

Minimize

The mission of the PMI Scheduling Community of Practice (SCoP) is to provide a forum for Professionals to promote excellence in scheduling through virtual networking, sharing project experiences, providing and receiving training, providing support and encouragement for the ongoing development of the PMI Body of Knowledge in the areas of scheduling and time management, and supporting project managers in their PMP certification efforts.

Our vision is to be recognized as a dynamic organization of professionals dedicated to advancing the practice and profession of project scheduling, through virtual collaboration, to promote excellence in scheduling around the globe.

The current focus of the SCoP is to establish a dynamic and collaborative environment to examine topics of interest to the community such as:
 A basic understanding of the role of project management in scheduling
 Established processes, tools and methodologies specific to or employed by scheduling professionals
 Relationship between scheduling and project management within other industries, knowledge areas and/or interest areas
 International perspectives on project scheduling

Scheduling is a vital part of all projects and the project management profession whether exploring the hitherto unknown depths of the oceans or the current and future frontiers in outer space. It extends through all industries and all phases of product development and service delivery. Scheduling, together with cost and quality control, has the greatest impact on bringing successful projects and products to the marketplace. The opportunities to improve upon project, program and portfolio delivery through better scheduling can be measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars a year (and, perhaps, more) on a global basis. Therefore, there is an urgent need to:
1. improve the competence of scheduling practitioners,
2. improve the recognition and career paths, both within and outside the scheduling profession, and
3. enhance the understanding of the importance of project and program scheduling among upper management in both the public and private sector.

History

The PMI Scheduling Community of Practice (SCoP) is a virtual community transitioned from the former PMI College of Scheduling (PMI COS). The PMI COS was a worldwide organization dedicated solely to advancing the techniques, practice and profession of Project Scheduling.
